Buri Resort & Spa

The shores of Puerto Galera with its alluring white sand and its pristine blue waters never fail those who wants to have a quick sunny escape from Manila.  Puerto Galera has always been considered a mini Boracay where parties fill up the paradise.

Known for being loud and festive, Galera gave me an impression that this was more of a barkada destination and that its hospitality wasn’t very flexible to other types of travelers. I somewhat held to this notion having stayed at the White Beach a couple of times.

What I didn’t know is that Puerto Galera has something else beyond its infamous identity. Just 15 minutes away from White Beach is Muele. After docking at the port of Muele, it was a swift 10 minute boat ride to a secret paradise, one where it is quiet, calm and evidently more luxurious than White Beach.

Buri Resort and Spa is a haven to those who needed some peace and quiet time to rejuvenate, relax and bask under the sun without being overwhelmed by a huge wave of tourist flocking around, it wasn’t a place where flee markets would fill up the alleys or some comic personalities would entice you to their restaurant or water activity fixers would bargain with you up endlessly, not that there’s anything wrong with that, but when you wanted to get rid of all the amusing chaos around you, Buri Resort and Spa gives you just the perfect spot without being too far away from where the festivities are.

The boat heading to the shores of Buri Resort went into a slow pace, as it approached land, a group of smiles greeted us with the warmest welcome and a glass of fresh mango juice. The immediate sight of two swimming pools by the front desk got me so excited about the paradise I’ve docked in.

With just 11 villas, exclusivity and privacy are definitely Buri’s bragging rights. Couples, families or friends can have the comforts of a villa configuration suited for them. The Garden Villa, Pool Villa and Family Villa all offer such a unique and cozy experience.

Rooms are designed in a Balinese and Tropical feel taking in indigenous materials such as nipa for the the roof and a variety of wooden furniture and accents in the interiors.

Rain showers are built in an open space, a cozy firm bed mounted on top of a wooden platform and large bay windows filling up the walls of the room. It was a breathe of fresh air and a doze of sunlight right inside your room.

Animasi is Buri’s in house restaurant who spoils its guests with a generous serving of sumptuous Filipino and International cuisine prepared by their Chef. With a unique menu offering “Catch of the Day”, dining is always a delight in this paradise.

As a wellness destination, Buri Resort is also one of the few resorts in Puerto Galera that offers Spa treatments for that well deserved pampering.

And just when you are fueled with some energy to do water activities without having to leave the far from the resort, Kayaking and Snorkeling are a quick fix for your adventure needs, and they’re right in front of the resort, just a stone's throw away from an infinity pool.

Buri Resort and Spa has indeed changed my perspective of Puerto Galera. Traveling far from the metro for a silent sanctuary isn’t necessary anymore. Buri Resort is a hidden haven under the sprawling Buri palms and a lush greenery, surrounded by a calm ocean and filled with the warmest staff.
